Matt Reeves clarifies comments on The Batman not being part of the DCEU

August 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday some comments from The Batman director Matt Reeves surfaced, where the filmmaker stated that the upcoming Dark Knight movie would be “standalone” and not “part of the DC Extended Universe.”

The Hollywood Reporter followed this up with a report claiming The Batman would be part of Warner’s new non-DCEU division alongside the newly-announced Joker origin movie, and that Reeves would be recasting the role of the Caped Crusader for the film.

Well, it turns out that isn’t the case, as clarified by Reeves on Twitter:

Jeez, what'd I miss, guys…? 😀

Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN…

In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman…

— Matt Reeves (@mattreevesLA) August 24, 2017

…not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn't be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story.

So there you have it. Official confirmation from Reeves that The Batman is part of the DCEU, to add to the previous comments from Ben Affleck that he’s still attached and committed to the project. So that’s those rumours put to bed. Roll on the next ones…
