Robert Englund says he is too old to play Freddy Krueger again

October 19, 2017 by Jordan Jones

The 2010 A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot was panned critically, and put any potential for a rebooted franchise soundly to sleep. Cut to 2017 with New Line preparing to try, once again, to bring Freddy Krueger back from the dead with The Conjuring 2 writer David Leslie Johnson working on the script. The obvious questions is: just who will don the fedora this time around?

It’s tough to say, though Freddy himself has pegged Kevin Bacon for his successor. One thing is for sure: Robert Englund will not be returning to play Freddy again. Speaking to EW, the horror icon put any hopes fans may have had for his return into the furnace:

“I’m too old to do another Freddy now. If I do a fight scene now it’s got to be real minimal because I can’t snap my head for eight different takes and different angles. My spine gets sore. I can still be mean and scary, but I’m mostly relegated now to sort of Van Helsing roles, old doctors and shit. So it’s fun that the last moment of me ever playing Freddy is a wink to the audience.”

Many argue that Robert Englund IS Freddy, and there can simply be no substitute. It’s certainly harder to replace a villain with so much personality; much more so than Michael Myers, or Jason.

What do you think? Who should play Freddy in the A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot? Let us know in the comments!

… You can find Jordan on Twitter, and Facebook.
