The Harry Potter universe is a sprawling, and dense world, full of its own unique mythology. That universe has not slowed a bit since the main series concluded back in 2011, with Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them carrying the torch. The movie introduced some new ideas, as well as terminology, for fans to soak in. Through the first film starring Newt Scamander, we learned that the American term for ‘Muggle’ was ‘Nomaj’. Now, in Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we will delve into the world of magic in France where we are also are introduced to a brand-new type of ‘Muggle’ – the French variety: Non-Magique.
Talking to EW, director David Yates talks a little bit about this uncharted corner of the wizarding world:
“[The wizarding world in Paris is] quite glamorous, it’s quite beautiful. There’s a community that lives alongside the muggle community, it’s much freer than in New York, where there’s segregation. Paris is a bit like England, actually, not so hung up about the differences between the two. Magical people can freely move into non-magical communities as long as they’re discreet about their talents.”

Non-Magique definitely has a nice ring to it, and exploring Paris in this visually-charming universe will probably lead to some marvelous imagery. Are you excited for Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald? Or do you wish the series had concluded way back with Harry Potter’s exploits?
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
