Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis reportedly teaming up for Beatles-themed comedy

March 5, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Universal Pictures and Working Title are pairing up Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral) for what is being described as “a musically-themed film set in the 1960s or 1970s.”

According to The Daily Mail, the project is going by the tentative title of All You Need Is Love, which is “built around the music of The Beatles” and reportedly follows “a struggling musician who, for plot reasons as yet unknown, thinks he’s the only person who can remember the Fab Four.” EastEnders star Himesh Patel is said to have been cast as the up-and-coming musician, although this is yet to be confirmed by anyone involved with the project, and filming is slated to get underway in the summer.

Danny Boyle had recently been linked to the director’s chair on Bond 25, with his regular collaborator John Hodge said to be penning a script for the next 007 outing which Boyle would direct if the screenplay was approved by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. It’s unclear whether the new Universal/Working Title project will impact those plans, but if filming on the musical comedy is going to take place in the summer, Boyle would certainly find himself pushed for time to fit Bond 25 in ahead of its November 2019 release.
