Adam Sandler discusses The Ridiculous 6 controversy

July 20, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Speaking to The Associated Press (via The Hollywood Reporter), Adam Sandler has addressed the controversy on the set of his latest film, The Ridiculous 6, which is the comedian’s first venture with Netflix.

At the premiere of his new film Pixels, Sandler was asked about the Native American actors who walked off the set of Ridiculous 6 in April due to the offensive content of the film to their culture. Some actors were reportedly upset over the names of some of the characters, as well as a scene where a Native American woman smokes a peace pipe while urinating.

“It was just a misunderstanding and once the movie is out will be cleared up,” Sandler said over the weekend, while also saying the film was “100 percent pro-American Indian”.

The Ridiculous Six is a spoof-comedy which pokes fun at the Western genre, including the classic The Magnificent Seven.

Pixels is is set for release in North America on July 24th and in the UK on August 12th, with Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) directing a cast that includes Adam Sandler (Grown Ups 2), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2), Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Michelle Monaghan (Playing it Cool), Sean Bean (Jupiter Ascending), Josh Gad (Frozen) and Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity).
