All-female Chronicle sequel in the works at 20th Century Studios

August 9, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Josh Trank’s low-budget found-footage sci-fi flick Chronicle grossed $126M at the worldwide box-office back in 2012, and now producer John Davis has confirmed that they’re in the process of developing a female-fronted sequel.

Chronicle was the tale of three high school friends – played by Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan, and Alex Russell – who gain superpowers after uncovering a mysterious power source. While promoting his latest movie Jungle Cruise, Davis told Forbes that the sequel would feature female protagonists and that it would be set years after the events of the first film.

“We’re working on Chronicle 2 right now, and I think it’s going to be great. We’re working on it at Fox. It’s going to give us a chance to tell the story in a different way. We’re going to tell it from the female point of view. It will have been ten years since the event happened in Seattle, and a lot of it’s going to deal with fake news and real news and cover-ups.”

Davis continued saying “More interestingly, it’s the next generation getting these powers that are corruptive. These are young women just finishing college, they are empowered, and this is their journey. I mean, what a new and interesting story you can tell there.”

Is a sequel to Chronicle something you’re looking forward to, or has it been too long since the original for you to care? Let us know what you think of this news by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
