AMC apologises for spoiling The Walking Dead mid-season finale for the world

December 3, 2014 by Thomas Roach

The Walking Dead midseason finale debuted in the U.S. on AMC Sunday night and before the rest of the world could see the episode the Facebook page posted a spoiler revealing a character’s death. Many fans took to the Facebook page to complain about this major spoiler.

SPOILERS FOLLOW…

The image they posted minutes after the episode was RIP Beth showing the character’s dead body being carried by Daryl…

AMC and The Walking Dead then issued this apology on their page:

We heard your feedback to last night’s post, and we’re sorry. With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler. Please know we’re going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead. As always, thank you for watching, and keep the comments coming. We appreciate all of your support. #RIPSpoiler’

Whilst many people who saw the episode on the East coast told users to avoid Facebook this seemed to be unfair as Europe, South America and Australia all had to wait a day extra for the episode to air in their regions. The post still seems to ignore the global audience and with the Facebook page having over 32 million likes it is silly of AMC to assume all of the users are from the US.

AMC have posted major spoilers before on their Facebook page but the anger from fans seems to be at an all time high. Despite this spoiler the show still maintained high viewing figures.

The Walking Dead returns in February on AMC. Watch a trailer here.
