Armie Hammer explains why audiences should be patient for a Call Me by Your Name sequel

October 20, 2020 by Liam Waddington

It has been three years since Call Me by Your Name, the 2017 romantic coming-of-age story starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer, was adapted from the 2007 novel by André Aciman and fans are still waiting on an update on the potential sequel after the author released his Call Me By Your Name sequel Find Me in 2019.

Now, in an interview with Collider, Armie Hammer discussed his desire to wait a while before a sequel should be put into production and why it’s the best for audiences to be patient.

“It needs room to breathe, too. I mean, so many people are emotionally invested in the first Call Me By Your Name that if you release a second one now, no matter what, I feel like you’re just setting yourself up for failure. If you give us time — like the story is supposed to happen — if you give us that time, and then we can come back when I’m in my 40s and Timmy’s 23, then we can do it again, then.”

Director Luca Guadagnino revealed earlier this year that he had a meeting planned with a writer to discuss the second part but due to the ongoing global health crisis, the film is now put on hold.

“I was going to America to meet a writer I love very much, whose name I don’t want to mention, to talk about the second part. Unfortunately, everything is cancelled. Of course, it’s a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stulhbarg, Esther Garrel, and the other actors. They will all be there in the new film.”
