New Arrow spin-off to star Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy

September 26, 2019 by Ricky Church

Though Arrow is ending with its eighth and final season, the Arrowverse will continue on through shows like The Flash and Supergirl. However, the world of Arrow specifically will continue in some form as The CW has set another spin-off series that will star Arrow‘s Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy reprising their roles as Mia Smoak, Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake respectively.

The new spin-off is said to be getting a backdoor pilot in Arrow’s final season. It will be set within the future of Arrow, presumably the year 2040 where McNamara’s Mia Smoak was first introduced last season. McNamara had a recurring role in the seventh season, but has been upped to a series regular for the final 10-episode season. It will be written by Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship and Oscar Balderrama.

Katie Cassidy had revealed earlier this month that she’d actually pitched The CW a Birds of Prey-style female-focussed spinoff, stating that: “I think they should [do it]. It’s time for women. Come on, we’ve got this.”

The news comes as the Arrowverse is about to premiere its latest spin-off, Batwoman. It is also prepping its annual crossover event, this year being the anticipated Crisis on Infinite Earths which is seeing plenty of DC veterans – from 1966’s Batman actor Burt Ward to Smallville‘s Tom Welling – making an appearance.

Arrow first premiered on The CW in 2012 and stars Stephen Amell as Star City’s resident vigilante. At first targeting those who had corrupted his city, Oliver Queen’s tenure as Green Arrow has evolved to include a whole team of superheroes both across Earth and the multiverse. You can watch the trailer for the final season here.

The final season of Arrow will premiere October 15th.
