Atomic Blonde 2 heading to Netflix

April 14, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Back in April of 2018, Charlize Theron confirmed that plans were afoot for a follow-up to the action spy thriller Atomic Blonde, and now it looks as though the sequel is starting to come together.

As reported by Discussing Film, streaming service Netflix is said to be in final talks to pick up the rights to Atomic Blonde 2, with Theron expected to reprise her role as MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton as well as producing with the original film’s Beth Kono and Kelly McCormack.

It’s still said to be early days on the sequel, and as yet no writer or director are attached.

Based on the graphic novel The Coldest City, Atomic Blonde was directed by David Leitch (John Wick) and saw Theron starring alonsgide James McAvoy, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella, and Toby Jones. The film was a modest hit at the box office, grossing $100 million from a $30 million production budget.

Should Netflix secure the rights to Atomic Blonde 2, it will become the second project the streaming service has set up with Theron alongside the comic book adaptation The Old Guard.
