Avengers 4 screenwriters tease Captain Marvel’s unprecedented power level

March 25, 2018 by Gary Collinson

While it’s a little unclear whether Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will appear in next month’s Avengers: Infinity War [various comments from directors Anthony and Joe Russo suggest that she will and she won’t], we do know that Carol Danvers will be leading her own 90s-set solo movie next year, followed by an appearance in the Phase Three-concluding Avengers 4.

Speaking to Screen Rant, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been chatting about getting the opportunity to use Carol Danvers in the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4, describing her as the most powerful hero in the MCU.

“Super excited to have her – for one thing,” said Markus. “You know, that movie does not exist yet so we’re following up on something that is good intentions at the moment. But that’s a power scale that right now doesn’t exist in the MCU.”

Markus went on to compare Carol to Steve Rogers, adding that: “She’s I should say, in some ways the closest to Captain America which is a weird, now rare kind of character which is sort of a person who’s right and knows they’re right and doesn’t really want to hear it when you tell them they’re wrong. So, with all these flawed, fucked up people and Quill who’s a mess and Tony who’s a massive ego all contorted. It’s fun to get another person with a clear vision in there and going, ‘Shut up.'”

With Chris Evans reportedly looking to call it a day as Captain America after Avengers 4, don’t be surprised if we see Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers taking a leading role in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes through Phase Four and beyond.

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
