Awards favourite Nomadland heading straight to Disney+ in the UK

March 4, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Many films are having to do the release window shuffle, and now it has been announced that festival favourite and awards frontrunner Nomadland is heading straight to Disney+ in the UK.

Screen Daily reports that the Frances McDormand vehicle will be made available to cinemas once they’re able to open, which won’t be anytime before the government’s pandemic imposed date of May 17, so Nomadland will be dropped on to Disney+ from April 30th in the UK and Ireland.

Directed by Chloe Zhao, who picked up the Golden Globe for Best Director at this years ceremony, and has also just directed Marvel’s eagerly anticipated blockbuster The Eternals, Nomadland tells the story of Fern (Frances McDormand), a woman who packs up her van and embarks on a journey through the American West after she loses everything during the Great Recession.

Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.
