Beetlejuice 2 sets 2024 release for Michael Keaton’s return as the ghost with the most

May 10, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

A sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice had been sat in development hell longer than the titular poltergeist had been cosied up to the shrunken-head guy in purgatory, but now Warner Bros. have set a date for his release, announcing the return of Michael Keaton’s ghost with the most will be September 6th, 2024.

As recently as last week Danny Elfman was suggesting that Beetlejuice 2 would begin shooting imminently, and now it appears Warner Bros. have uttered his name three-times for his return in 2024.

Warner Bros. decision to announce a Beetlejuice 2 release date might have something to do with the fact that the calendar has been cleared thanks to Marvel Studios once again having to delay their Blade reboot because of the ongoing writers strike.

Beetlejuice 2 already has a script in place written by Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. It will reunite them with Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega, who is confirmed to be playing the daughter of Lydia, the character played by Winona Ryder in the 1988 original. Ryder will also reprise her iconic role, while Michael Keaton will return as the foul-mouthed ghost. Justin Theroux has been announced as a new addition to the cast.

Made for a relatively cheap $15 million, Beetlejuice starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O’Hara, and made an impressive $80 million at the worldwide box-office.
