Ben Affleck’s Batman set to appear in Suicide Squad to kick start solo movie?

January 21, 2015 by admin

Warning – could be spoilers ahead…

There were a few rumours reported a couple of days about the script for Suicide Squad that indicated Batman would be mentioned by Amanda Waller, but not featured. Well, according to new rumours, that’s all false.

According to Mark Hughes of Forbes (who does know his stuff), Batman will feature at the end of the movie. Not in video, not just mentioned, but in-story. Hughes claims that Batman will make an appearance after The Joker escapes from Arkham and this will kick start his solo movie, which will take inspiration from the Joker section of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

“This would set up the Joker as a possible/likely antagonist in the solo Batman movie that’s planned in the next few years, and which I’ve heard will take some inspiration from Frank Miller’s comic book series ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ – the third issue of which is a story about Batman facing off against an escaped Joker,” Hughes writes. “I’m also told that Gotham City Police Commissioner Ellen Yindel (who replaces James Gordon during the comic book story) is planned for inclusion in the film.”

The inclusion of Yindel as commissioner also backs up the rumours that Jim Gordon will be dead in this cinematic universe.

Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5th 2016 and will feature a cast that includes Will Smith (Hancock) as Deadshot, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as The Joker, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis (How to get Away with Murder) as Amanda Waller. Jesse Eisenberg (The Double) is expected to reprise his role as Lex Luthor. You can listen to the Flickering Myth Podcast’s thoughts on the Suicide Squad cast using the player below:
