Ben Barnes to star opposite Julia Ormond in BBC One drama Gold Digger

August 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Following his roles in The Punisher and Westworld, actor Ben Barnes is set for another small screen outing, having signed on for the BBC One drama Gold Digger, where he will star opposite Julia Ormond (Legends of the Fall).

Deadline reports that the series will see Barnes as Benjamin Golding, a copyrighter with a mysterious past who becomes involved with the older woman Julia Day (Ormond). Day has spent her whole life putting the needs of others before herself, but after she falls for a man 25 years her junior, the series will explore how the relationship impacts her family as past secrets are revealed.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the exciting cast and creative team in telling this unexpected, modern relationship story with the opportunity to play such a complex and enigmatic character,” said Barnes.

“We’re very excited that Ben Barnes is joining this fantastic show to play opposite Julia Ormond,” said Elizabeth Kilgarriff of BBC One. “Their characters’ relationship at the heart of the series promises many unexpected twists and turns and I can’t wait to see it come to life.”

Gold Digger has been created by writer Marnie Dickens (Thirteen) and the six-part series is being produced by Mainstreet Pictures, with Vanessa Caswill (Little Women) directing the first three episodes and Tim Bradley (Unforgotten) producing.
