Bill Skarsgård to play Pennywise again in IT prequel Welcome To Derry

May 31, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Bill Skarsgård is crawling back down the standpipe once more to play Pennywise the Clown in Max’s It prequel Welcome to Derry.

Per Deadline’s report the Boy Kills World star will reprise the title role of It/Pennywise from the $1.7 billion grossing New Line movie It and its sequel, It Chapter Two.

Skarsgård won’t be the only Derry alumni returning for the nine-episode series, because director Andy Muschietti will also be back to helm four episodes.

The Warner Bros. Television series comes from a story by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and It Chapter Two co-producer Jason Fuchs. Little is known about the plot, but Welcome to Derry is reportedly set in the early 1960s, which means it could focus on one of the novels most harrowing events; the fire at The Black Spot nightclub, which was referenced in the 2017 film.

The official logline for the series states, “Set in the world of Stephen King’s It universe, Welcome to Derry is based on King’s It novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films It and It Chapter Two.”

Skarsgård joins the already cast Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Jovan Adepo (3 Body Problem), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), and James Remar (Dexter).
