Black Panther’s Michael B. Jordan on potential Killmonger return and losing Chadwick Boseman

January 28, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Alongside Thanos, Michael B. Jordan’s Black Panther villain Killmonger is the MCU’s most complex bad guy, and while speaking to People Magazine about his involvement with the International WELL Building Institute, the Creed and Fruitvale Station star spoke of his pain at losing his co-star Chadwick Boseman, and how he hopes his return to the world of Black Panther will “always be on the table in some capacity”.

Among many terrible things to happen in 2020, the loss of Chadwick Boseman, whose star had just broken through the stratosphere and threatened to burn brighter, was a tough one to take, and Jordan opened up about losing his friend and co-star, stating: “That’s something that is very, very near and dear to my heart for a lot of obvious reasons, [I] had a really tough year losing somebody close to me. And what that means for that franchise is it was devastating.”

Marvel has already said that Boseman’s T’challa will not be recast, and that Black Panther II will instead focus on other characters from Wakanda’s impressive world-building, which could open up the possibility of a Killmonger return?

On that Jordan stated that “being in that world in a character that I loved playing, and working with Ryan Coogler and all that good stuff, it’s family. We created a family over there, so to be able to be in that world again is something that, I think, will always be on the table in some capacity.”

Black Panther 2 is scheduled to start filming in July 2021, although that’s clearly subject to change in this current state of cinematic flux.
