Brian Cox is the New York Ripper in Dexter: Resurrection season 2

April 3, 2026 by Ricky Church

Dexter Morgan has found his next target as Brian Cox (Succession) has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection for its second season.

Cox will star as Don Frampt, otherwise known as the serial killer the New York Ripper. Though audiences did not meet him in the first season, he was often mentioned as a prior member of Leon Prater’s serial killer club as well as Detective Claudette Wallace’s white whale of the case she could not solve. When Dexter left Prater’s mansion, he took with him all of the files Prater had on his serial killers from over the years intending to commit his own brand of justice on them with the Ripper at the top of his list.

Cox will have a series regular role in the second season as the retired Ripper. “Though no longer active as a killer, he’s found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree.”

Dexter: Resurrection was created by original series showrunner Clyde Phillips. The series picked up several weeks after Dexter: New Blood where Dexter survived his gunshot wound and travelled to New York City to find his son Harrison. During that time, he discovers a group of serial killers who meet annually while his old friend Angel Batista, now suspecting his identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher, is on his trail.

The series starred Michael C. Hall reprising his iconic role as Dexter Morgan with Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, with James Remar as Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan. It is unknown if Uma Thurman, who starred as Prater’s head of security Charley, will return as well as Eric Stonestreet’s Gareth/Rapunzel, who was the one member of the group to escape Dexter’s table.

Dexter: Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easily. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined—and that the only way out is together.
