Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer adds Army of the Dead star Matthias Schweighöfer

March 15, 2022 by Liam Waddington

Director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming biopic Oppenheimer has added yet another name to its stacked ensemble cast as Deadline is reporting that Army of The Dead’s Matthias Schweighöfer has joined the cast in an unknown role.

Schweighöfer was the breakout star last year in Zack Snyder’s Netflix zombie epic Army of the Dead where he played the comedic safecracker Dieter. The actor also got his own spinoff movie late last year, titled Army of Thieves – which he starred in and directed.

Schweighöfer joins a cast that includes Nolan regular Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders), as well as Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place Part II), Matt Damon (Stillwater), Robert Downey Jr. (Avengers: Endgame), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Rami Malek (No Time to Die), Benny Safdie (Licorice Pizza), Dane DeHaan (Lisey’s Story), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Dune), Louise Lombard (After We Collided), Jason Clarke (The Devil All The Time), and Josh Peck (Drake & Josh).

Also new to the cast alongside Schweighöfer are Emily Dumont (Licorice Pizza), Guy Burnet (Ray Donovan) and Danny Deferrari (Shiva Baby).

Oppenheimer is written by Nolan and is based upon the biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Murphy will portray Oppenheimer in the film, which charts the development of the atomic bomb during World War II.

Oppenheimer is set for release on July 21st, 2023.
