Could Melissa Barrera be the first to jump from Scream to Scary Movie?

April 19, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Are we going to witness one of the great movies in parody history with an actor going from one of the original genre films to the parody version? Melissa Barrera has treated horror fans with the idea of her appearing in a new Scary Movie.

At this year’s CinemaCon, Paramount Pictures announced Neil H. Moritz would tackle the Scary Movie franchise with a fresh new installment. With no director or actors attached, it seems open for a stunt casting like this.

Speaking to Inverse, the Scream actress puts the idea into the universe (and into the ears of a wise producer) that the upcoming reboot should include her: “I always loved those movies,” Barrera told the publication. “When I saw it announced, I was like, ‘Oh, that would be fun. That would be so fun to do.'”

If you’re unaware, Barrera was fired from Scream VII when she took to social media to express her concern about the ongoing global crisis. Spyglass swiftly fired the actress, and the seventh Scream installment quickly fell apart, with Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon leaving.

It’s reported that Scream VII will once again star Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, with longtime writer Kevin Williamson helming the feature.

The new Scary Movie will be produced in the fall of 2024 and should hit theaters in 2025.
