Creed star Tessa Thompson joins Thor: Ragnarok, Natalie Portman won’t return

April 11, 2016 by Gary Collinson

It looks like the God of Thunder could be getting a new love-interest in next year’s Thor: Ragnarok, as THR has revealed that Creed star Tessa Thompson has landed the female lead in the Marvel superhero threequel.

Although Thompson’s role is being kept under wraps, speculation is suggesting that she’ll play Thor’s new love interest, given that Natalie Portman will not be reprising her role as Dr. Jane Foster. Thompson is actually set to star with Portman in Alex Garland’s new film Annihilation, which is due to go into production in the next few weeks.

In addition to Thompson’s casting, the site also confirms that Jaimie Alexander will be back as the Asgardian warrior Lady Sif.

Thor: Ragnarok is set for release on November 3rd 2017 and sees Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) directing a cast that so far includes Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), along with Cate Blanchett (Carol) and Tessa Thompson (Creed).
