Daisy Ridley, Kristin Scott Thomas and Nina Hoss to star in World War II drama Women in the Castle

September 6, 2020 by Amie Cranswick

Deadline is reporting that Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Kristin Scott Thomas (Darkest Hour) and Nina Hoss (Phoenix) are set to star in the World War II drama Women in the Castle.

Based on Jessica Shattuck’s bestselling 2017 novel of the same name, Women in the Castle is being written and directed by Jane Anderson (The Wife, Olive Kitteridge) and follows three German women who have to deal with the fallout and devastation around them when their husbands are executed over their involvement in an assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler.

“One of Jane’s great talents is to reveal the inner emotional lives of women and in gifting those revelations to actresses, allowing them to deliver award-winning, timelessly memorable performances,” said producer Rosalie Swedlin (The Wife). “And in Kristin, Daisy and Nina we have the cast to do exactly that.”

“We’re thrilled to resume our partnership with Jane and Rosalie, the team behind The Wife,” added Tim Haslamn of Embankment. Jane’s precision in uncovering the deeply personal stories of Shattuck’s female characters is intensely captivating and emotionally expressive. Whilst set within a conflict of epic scale the intimacy of the storytelling is highly resonant for its audience. Our actresses will deliver powerhouse performances.”

Filming on Women in the Castle is slated to get underway in Europe early in 2021.
