Netflix is teaming with Oscar-winning filmmaker Damien Chazelle (La La Land) for a musical drama series entitled The Eddy, which will revolve around the owner and house band of a club in contemporary Paris.
The eight episode series has been penned by Jack Thorne (This Is England) and will be executive produced by Chazelle, who will also direct two episodes. Alan Poul (The Newsroom), Patrick Spence (Fortitude) and Katie Swinden (Peaky Blinders) will also executive produce, while Grammy Award winner Glen Ballard will write the music.
“I’ve always dreamed of shooting in Paris, so I’m doubly excited to be teaming up with Jack, Glen and Alan on this story, and thrilled that we have found a home for it at Netflix,” said Chazelle.
“From the intense, complex relationship between a jazz drummer and his instructor in Whiplash to his dazzling duo of lovelorn Los Angelenos in La La Land, Damien’s work is emotional and electrifying,” added Erik Barmack, VP of International Originals at Netflix.
