Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later casts Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes

April 27, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The zombie apocalypse has its survivors, and it’s an all-star cast. The new 28 Years Later trilogy is set to kick off with Danny Boyle and Sony Pictures coming together for this epic new project and Deadline reports that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have all signed on to star.

Comer will next be seen in Focus Features’ The Bikeriders; Taylor-Johnson has two 2024 films in The Fall Guy and Nosferatu; and the legendary Fiennes is currently finishing a 4-city International run of the sold-out play, Macbeth. The trio will step into the mantle initially created by Cillian Murphy, who is set to return as an executive producer.

Boyle is directing the first movie from a script by Alex Garland. A sequel is already in development, with Nia DaCosta stepping into the director’s chair. The reported plan is to film both films back-to-back.

Sony sees the potential in the project with this stacked cast. 2002’s 28 Days Later grossed more than $82 million worldwide and led to a 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later. Zombies may not be in trend right now, but the fans of the franchise have long clamored for the follow-up.

While not confirmed, 28 Years Later will have a reported budget of $60 million and will set up a new trilogy of films. Production is set to start in May. Sony will release the film globally in 2025.
