Dave Filoni describes the “thrilling” writing process for Star Wars: Ahsoka series

November 24, 2021 by Liam Waddington

In a recent interview with Empire, The Mandalorian co-creator and Ahsoka writer Dave Filoni has described the “thrilling” writing process for the upcoming Star Wars: Ahsoka Disney+ series.

“It’s thrilling, I gotta tell you. […] It’s something you imagine doing for a very long time. And then it’s kind of startling when you’re sitting there, and now you have to do it. […] I thought of this adventure for Ahsoka for a long time, and it’s interesting to see how it’s evolved. […] Years ago, I never would have imagined that it was sprung from a branch of a tree that had anything to do with a guy [like] Din Djarin, or a child that looks like Yoda. It’s a great lesson for me on how, when you have other creatives like Jon Favreau, they can help lend dimension and depth to what you’re doing.”

While the plot and release details are still being kept under wraps, we do know the Ahsoka series will star Rosario Dawson as the titular character as well as a returning Hayden Christensen who will reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, who trained Ahsoka during The Clone Wars before turning to the Dark Side and the recently announced Natasha Liu Bordizzo who has been cast as the fan-favourite Star Wars Rebels character Sabine Wren.

There have also been rumours that Aladdin‘s Mena Massoud has been approached to play the live-action version of Ezra Bridger and Lars Mikkelsen is also being rumoured to reprise his role as Thrawn after voicing the character for two seasons of Rebels. However, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney has currently confirmed these casting speculations.
