After DC Studios’ body-horror flick Clayface continues to hold strong at the box office, the studio is getting ready to delve into the horror genre again by bringing its resident occult expert and Hellblazer John Constantine to the screen from Evil Dead Wrath writer/director Francis Galluppi.

Constantine is a Liverpool-born warlock, supernatural detective, exorcist and occasional con artist who is often more of an anti-hero. He is known for his sarcastic wit, cynicism and chain-smoking as he investigates supernatural mysteries and deals in the occult. Created by Alan Moore, Stephen R. Bissette and John Totleben, the character first appeared in the Swamp Thing comic in 1985 before getting his own series Hellblazer which became Vertigo’s longest-running title. In the decades since his creation he has become a fan-favourite character and been a member of several of DC’s magical groups, such as the Justice League Dark in recent years where that team tackled the supernatural side of the world the Justice League and other heroes rarely dealt with.
Galluppi will write the script for DC Studios before it is officially greenlit into a feature film. Galluppi made his directorial debut with his 2023 film The Last Stop in Yuma County, which he also wrote, and is currently helming the seventh film in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Wrath, due for for a April 7th, 2028 release.

Constantine has been brought to life on screens before, first with the 2005 cult film Constantine with Keanu Reeves starring in the role with rumours swirling in recent years of a sequel in development. Matt Ryan played the character in the short-lived NBC series Constantine, but was later brought into the CW’s Arrowverse becoming a regular on Legends of Tomorrow as well as voicing Constantine in several DC animated films.
