DC’s Titans casts its Tim Drake for season 3

February 4, 2021 by EJ Moreno

The Bat-family is growing by the day, especially on HBO Max’s Titans, as  Jay Lycurgo (I May Destroy You) will join the cast of the DC superhero drama as Tim Drake for season 3. He’s joining the incoming Barbara Gordon, played by series newcomer Savannah Welch.

Tim Drake will fill the void the show has for a proper Robin character, as Brenton Thwaites’s Dick Grayson moves onto the Nightwing persona, and Jason Todd transformers into Red Hood. Titans‘ third season will see the show move from San Francisco to Gotham City, and Drake’s inclusion is just part of the more Batman-focused era.

Iain Glen is already set to return as Bruce Wayne, with Gotham City regulars Barbara Gordon and Scarecrow, a.k.a. Dr. Jonathan Crane, joining the mix.

In his description from the show, Tim Drake is “a streetwise kid who’s managed to grow up on the toughest streets without losing his indelible belief in heroism. They continue, “His easygoing demeanor is backed up by a near-genius mind, a natural detective with a perception of detail far beyond his years.”

“Easy-going” is something the Bat-family needs in Titans as the brooding Dick Grayson and volatile Jason Todd can feel a bit much at times. Could a more laid-back persona help even out the tone on the show a bit, as well? Moving from DC Universe to the much-larger home at HBO Max will mean the show needs to cast a wider net of appeal.

Production on season 3 of Titans will reportedly wrap in June, with a planned release for late 2021 or early 2022.
