Diablo Cody wants to write Jennifer’s Body 2: “I’m not done with Jennifer’s Body”

January 27, 2024 by Ricky Church

With her new movie Lisa Frankenstein coming out on Netflix in just a couple of weeks, screenwriter Diablo Cody has opened up about the possibility of returning to her most cult favourite film of her career: Jennifer’s Body.

Released in 2009, the film starred Megan Fox in the title role of Jennifer who becomes possessed by a demon after a ritual sacrifice gone wrong. Fox stars alongside Amanda Seyfried as her friend Anita “Needy”, who tries to either break her possession or find a way to kill her once and for all. It also featured Johnny Simmons, Adam Brody, J.K. Simmons and Amy Sedaris with Karyn Kusama directing from Cody’s screenplay.

The film was met with mixed reviews and became a box office failure, but despite that it has grown a large following since its release and has seen something of a resurgence in the last few years. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting for Lisa Frankenstein, Cody was asked about the legacy of Jennifer’s Body and whether we could see a sequel down the road.

“YES! I wanna do a sequel,” Cody told the outlet. “I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe it in as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

In the meantime, Cody wrote Lisa Frankenstein which isdirected by Zelda Williams and stars Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania) and Cole Sprouse (Riverdale). The film will be released on Netflix February 9th and Cody also has “an unfinished [horror script] kicking around that I need to finish that I think is definitely THE most straight horror, like, overt, gore, scary thing I’ve ever written. I’m really proud of the concept and I just have to push myself across the finish line.”
