Disney’s DuckTales cancelled after three seasons

December 4, 2020 by Ricky Church

Disney XD has cancelled the DuckTales reboot after three seasons.

The original DuckTales first premiered in 1987 and ran for 4 seasons. The reboot first premiered in 2017 with the third season having aired throughout the year. Production on the third season is still ongoing and the series will conclude sometime in 2021.

“The talented creative team, led by Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones, have delivered exceptional storytelling with uniquely reimagined characters for three seasons of 75 episodes and more than 15 shorts,” reads the official statement from Disney XD. “While physical production is wrapping, DuckTales continues to be available daily on Disney Channels and Disney+ around the world and fans will get an epic season finale in 2021.”

DuckTales follows “the highflying adventures of Duckburg’s most famous trillionaire Scrooge McDuck (voiced by David Tennant); his mischievous triplet grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie (Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan); and temperamental nephew Donald Duck (Tony Anselmo). Also featured are the trusted McDuck Manor team: big-hearted, fearless chauffer/pilot Launchpad McQuack (Beck Bennett); no-nonsense housekeeper Mrs. Beakley (Toks Olagundoye); and her granddaughter, Webby Vanderquack (Kate Micucci), resident adventurer and the triplets’ newfound fierce friend.”

DuckTales has been a beloved cartoon for decades and spawned an animated film and spin-off Darkwing Duck, which also starred DuckTales‘ Launchpad McQuack. It was recently announced Darkwing Duck will receive his own reboot after a different version of the character appeared in the second season of DuckTales.
