Djimon Hounsou eyes Merlin-like role in Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur

November 20, 2014 by Thomas Roach

According to Variety, Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) is in talks to play the mentor of King Arthur is Guy Ritchie’s latest film Knights of the Round Table. It was previously reported that actor Idris Elba was in talks for the role, but he can no longer commit to the project.

The description of the role says ‘Merlin-esque figure who trains and mentors Arthur.’ It is likely that this is essentially the role of Merlin, but will deviate greatly from previous incarnations.

Guy Ritchie is set to direct the film for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow with Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) playing King Arthur and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere. It was also recently reported that Jude Law (Black Sea) is being considered for the film’s villain.

Knights of the Round Table is set for release July 22nd, 2016.
