Downton Abbey actor Matthew Goode joins cast of Netflix’s The Crown for season 2

January 25, 2017 by Justin Cook

Actor Matthew Goode, who in past years has become a go-to actor of sorts for period films and TV shows, will be adding another one to his list of credits, as TV Line reports that he is joining the cast of Netflix’s The Crown for its upcoming second season.

For those unaware, The Crown is a Golden Globe-winning Netflix show that focuses on the life of Queen Elizabeth II and her reign of the United Kingdom. Goode will play Antony Armstrong-Jones, aka Lord Snowdon, the society photographer who Princess Margaret, the youngest daughter of King Geroge VI, was married to for 18 years before getting divorced. In real life, Snowdon passed away just earlier this year at the age of 85.

As mentioned before, much of Goode’s best-known work is in period films and TV shows such as Downton Abbey, The Imitation Game, Belle and Allied; he’s also appeared in Match Point, Watchmen and Stoker.

The first season of The Crown, which takes place between 1947 and 1955, earned universally positive responses from nearly all who watched it, with several pointing out the strong performances of Claire Foy (Elizabeth), Matt Smith (Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh) and John Lithgow (Winston Churchhill). The show will likely go on for six seasons, with each season covering a different decade in Elizabeth’s life.
