Eli Roth teams with Dreamworks Animation for Fright Krewe

June 14, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Eli Roth is no longer just a gory horror director; he’s now been quite fond of doing children’s horror entertainment. After projects like The House with a Clock in Its Walls and appearing in Poppy Playtime, the filmmaker seems more comfortable exploring horror for a younger audience than ever. That’s why the filmmaker is teaming up with Dreamworks Animation for a  new animated horror series for older kids called Fright Krewe.

In Fright Krewe, “An ancient prophecy and a Voodoo Queen put misfit teens in charge of saving New Orleans from the biggest demonic threat it’s faced in almost two centuries. But, honestly? Saving the world might be easier than becoming friends.”

The series will come from Roth and author James Frey with Roth, Frey, Joanna Lewis, and Kristine Songco executive producing. No voice cast has been announced as of yet.

This project is Dreamworks Animation’s first foray into the world of horror but will be guided by the skilled Eli Roth. Roth is best known for his work in films like Hostel and Cabin Fever but isn’t scared to venture into gateway horror or video game adaptations like the upcoming Borderlands.

There’s no set release date at the time of writing, but the 10-episode first season will debut on Hulu and Peacock.
