Elizabeth Banks teams with Universal for The Invisible Woman

November 28, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Universal Pictures’ revamped strategy for its library of Universal Monsters characters continues to take shape, with Variety reporting that Elizabeth Banks has signed on to direct and star in The Invisible Woman.

The project is said to be based upon an original pitch by Banks, who is coming off the box office disappointment of the Charlie’s Angels reboot, and is said to be completely unrelated to Universal and Blumhouse’s upcoming reboot of The Invisible Man, with no crossover potential.

Having originally intended on launching a shared Dark Universe featuring its vault of classic Monster characters, Universal switched up its approach following disappointing box office returns for the Tom Cruise-headlined The Mummy.

The studio has instead adopted a filmmaker-led approach, which has resulted in The Invisible Man, as well as green lights for Paul Feig’s monster team-up Dark Army and a new Dracula project entitled Renfield from director Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman).
