The Flash movie may not be titled Flashpoint any more

April 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

During last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Warner Bros. had decided to switch up its plans for The Flash solo movie with an adaptation of Flashpoint, a comic book arc which sees Barry Allen waking up in a vastly altered DC universe.

While Warner’s DC plans have been in flux following the lukewarm reception to Justice League (and the disappointing box office), the studio does seem to be pressing ahead with Flashpoint, having recently hired Spider-Man: Homecoming writers and Game Night directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to take the reins.

However, according to Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, it seems we may be getting another title change, with the outlet referring to writer Dan Mazeau as having “worked on the Warner Bros.’ Flash movie project when it was titled Flashpoint.” Kit then ook to Twitter to clarify his comments somewhat:

I didn't say they weren't adapting Flashpoint. All I said was that it wouldn't be titled Flashpoint. But maybe I've said too much. 😜

If this is accurate, then one would assume they’ve decided to revert to The Flash as a title, although that may seem a little strange if the movie does have a focus on the entire “DC Hyper-Extended Multiverse“, with appearances from the likes of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck’s Batman.

On the other hand, it’s also possible that Daley and Goldstein have convinced Warner Bros. and DC Films to shift away from the Flashpoint storyline in favour of a more traditional solo movie for the Scarlet Speedster (as Anghus Houvouras argued last year, a Flashpoint movie could be much more effective once the DCEU was more firmly established and familiar to audiences).

We’ll keep you posted once we hear more. But, in the meantime, let us know in the comments below if you’re still hoping for a Flashpoint movie, or you’d prefer a traditional solo Flash film first…
