Gates McFadden writing Star Trek: Crusher series for IDW

October 8, 2026 by Gary Collinson

Having recently reprised her role as Dr. Beverly Crusher in the third season of Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard, Gates McFadden is set to return to the iconic character once again in 2027, this time in comic book form, as the writer of the limited series Star Trek: Crusher from IDW Publishing.

Featuring art from Megan Levens and colors from Charlie Kirchoff, the series will bridge the 20 year in-universe gap for the iconic Starfleet Chief Medical Officer, exploring Crusher’s story between the events of Star Trek: Nemesis and Picard. Presumably that will include that memorable shore leave on Casperia Prime…

“It’s such an honor to return to Starfleet and expand Beverly Crusher’s storyline in a whole new way,” said McFadden. “I’ve spent years bringing the words of other great writers to life in Beverly’s shoes, so it’s inspiring and thrilling to now be the one scripting a new chapter in this fabulous character’s saga. I’m excited for Star Trek fans to read this comic and I’m so grateful for their continued support.”

“IDW’s bold celebration of Star Trek’s 60th anniversary was just the beginning of our stellar plans for the iconic franchise,” added Davidi Jonas, IDW CEO. “We are so fortunate to have Gates McFadden beam into the world of comics and reprise her role of Beverly Crusher, but this time as the writer. There is a 20 year gap in the fan-favorite character’s story. Who better to tell it than Beverly Crusher herself?”

Star Trek: Crusher will launch in summer 2027.
