Godzilla anime film headed to Netflix

March 14, 2017 by Robert Kojder

For those of us that need something to whet our appetite for Krampus director Michael Dougherty’s far-off but much anticipated Godzilla: King of Monsters or the inevitable monster mash between Godzilla and King Kong, Netflix has announced it is bringing a Godzilla anime feature to the streaming service later this year.

This will mark Godzilla’s first feature anime outing, which is actually surprising considering that the franchise has been around since the 1950s. Here’s a look at some concept art, unveiled via the official Twitter account:

The Godzilla anime project will be produced Toho and animated by the prestigious Polygon Pictures. Kobun Shizuno (Knights of Sidonia) and Hiroyuki Seshita (AJIN: Demi-Human) are directing, with Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass) penning the screenplay. Featuring in the voice cast are Yuki Kaji (Attack on Titan), Takahiro Sakurai (AJIN: Demi-Human), Junichi Suwabe (Prince of Tennis), Tomokazu Sugita (Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker), Kana Hanazawa (BLAME!) and Mamoru Miyano (The Seven Deadly Sins).

Godzilla is set for a theatrical release in Japan and will debut worldwide on Netflix later in the year.
