Variety is reporting that Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig has signed on to direct an adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic Little Women for Columbia Pictures, having already been attached as screenwriter.
The film will reunite Gerwig with two stars of her acclaimed feature debut in Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet, while Meryl Streep (The Post), Emma Stone (La La Land) and Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth) are also in talks to join the cast.

Little Women follows the four teenage March sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg and their mother Marmee as they navigate life in Civil War-era Massachusetts while their father is acting as a pastor in the war.
The book has been adapted for the screen on a number of occasions, most recently by the BBC with a three-part drama airing last year.
