Guillermo del Toro confirms Justice League Dark is part of a shared universe

December 4, 2014 by Gavin Logan

Back in October Warner Bros. officially announced their slate of DC movies starting with Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice in March 2016 and ending with Green Lantern in June 2020. While we all got very excited about finally seeing the Justice League come together on the big screen, one movie that didn’t get a mention was the already announced Guillermo del Toro venture Justice League Dark.

Del Toro has discussed the progress of Justice League Dark on various occasions stating that the script has been handed in to Warner Bros. and the project is still very much going to happen. In a recent interview with Collider while talking about his rumoured involvement in the upcoming Universal Monsters shared universe, Del Toro once again updated us on the JLD status saying that “Right now the only sort of shared universe project I’m working on is Dark Universe for Warners, you know, for DC, which is Swamp Thing, Demon, Deadman, Zatanna. It’s a very different universe.”

It’s unclear whether the Dark Universe Del Toro mentions is separate from the standard DC Universe that will exist with Superman, Batman, The Flash and other members of the Justice League. The two universes could potentially exist alongside each other with various characters crossing back and forth from time to time. With the script already handed in to Warner Bros. it’s likely we will start receiving updates about the movie early next year.
