Hailee Steinfeld joins Transformers’ Bumblebee spin-off

June 1, 2017 by Ricky Church

It looks like there’s some movement on the much-discussed Bumblebee spin-off from Paramount’s Transformers franchise. Pitch Perfect 2 star Hailee Steinfeld has entered talks to star in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and will play a tomboy who has a job as a mechanic after school.

Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight will helm the film from a script by Shut In writer Christina Hodson, who will produce alongside franchise director Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg,Brian Holdner, Stephen Davis and Lorezo Di Bonaventura.

The film is the first in a line of Transformers spin-offs of Paramount’s planned Transformers Cinematic Universe with prequels and other films focusing on different Autobots or Transformer groups. Aside from Bumblebee, there has also been talk of an animated prequel set entirely on Cybertron., while Michael Bay has said there are 14 more Transformers stories written. Transformers: The Last Knight, meanwhile, will be released on June 23rd.
