Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren’s Yellowstone prequel now titled 1923

June 22, 2022 by Ricky Church

The next prequel in the Yellowstone franchise has been given a new title and synopsis. Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, the series was formerly titled 1932 when announced but has now been given the new title 1923.

It was originally reported the series would explore how “pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home,” but now that it is taking place nearly a full decade earlier Paramount+ has given an official synopsis for the next prequel:

1923 focuses on the Dutton family’s next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade.

There is no word yet on the new (or rather old) heads of the Dutton family Ford and Mirren will play during this time in Yellowstone history.

Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Wind River) has performed quite the world building feat with Yellowstone, which stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, and has already spawned one hugely successful spin-off in 1883, featuring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, and went on to become the most-watched title ever on Paramount+ worldwide.

1923 is expected to premiere this December on Paramount+.
