James Gray to direct Depression-era ghost story Ezekiel Moss

April 1, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Ad Astra and Armageddon Time director James Gray will try his hand at horror with the news that he’s set to helm depression-era ghost story Ezekiel Moss.

Deadline reports that Gray will work from a script by Keith Bunin, who has written the recently announced live-action Aristocats adaptation, and whose latest draft blew away Focus Features and convinced the We Own The Night director to take the project.

Ezekiel Moss is described as a depression-era ghost story about a young, imaginative boy living in a small town who befriends a mysterious drifter who may or may not have the supernatural ability to communicate with the dead. It was originally intended to be directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman prior to his tragic passing in 2014.

Gray seems pretty adept at transitioning between genres, so it’ll be interesting to see how he tackles a ghost story. Let us know what you think of the news by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
