James Gunn reveals his planned story for the cancelled Scooby-Doo 3 movie

April 6, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Before the beloved filmmaker James Gunn helmed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 for Marvel Studios, he got his big break penning the script for the live-action Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed films. However, due to the poor reception by critics and diminishing box office returns, a planned Scooby-Doo 3 was cancelled.

Now, in an impromptu Q&A session on Twitter, Gunn has revealed the plot for Scooby-Doo 3 which would have seen Mystery Inc. travel to Scotland for a brand-new case.

“The Mystery Ink gang are hired by a town in Scotland who complain they’re being plagued by monsters but we discover throughout the film the monsters are actually the victims & Scooby & Shaggy have to come to terms with their own prejudices & narrow belief systems. (Yes, Really!), Gunn shared.

Unfortunately, the third film was shortly cancelled after the release of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and is incredibly unlikely the film will ever come to fruition. However, Warner Bros. do have the animated film Scoob! in the can, but as with everything, it’s currently delayed indefinitely due to the current global health crisis.

What do you think about the story for the scrapped Scooby-Doo 3? Let me know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
