James Gunn shares behind-the-scenes tease from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow set

January 23, 2025 by Ricky Church

With cameras now rolling on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, DC Studios co-head James Gunn has shared a new photo from the film’s set teasing Milly Alcock’s appearance as the Girl of Steel.

Gunn shared the photo on Instagram which shows Alcock from behind in a set chair with Supergirl’s logo, showing its distinctness from the colour scheme on David Corenswet’s Superman.

Gunn said of the post “Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal @millyalcock as our Kara Zor-El.  Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.”

At this point its unknown if the clothes Alcock is wearing is something for the set or Kara’s civilian disguise as she explores the galaxy. Either way, we will likely get a very different interpretation of Supergirl from the ones Helen Slater and Melissa Benoist delivered to fans.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on the graphic novel by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. It follows Supergirl on a cosmic journey as she meets Ruthye Mary Knolle, a young girl whose father had recently been murdered and has begun a quest to avenge his death.. Together they set out chasing the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills, the man who killed Ruthye’s father, across the galaxy in their attempts to bring him to justice and save other innocents.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Jason Momoa as Lobo and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s parents. The film is being directed by Craig Gillespie from a script by Ana Nogueira. Gunn and Peter Safran are executive produce.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released on June 26th, 2026.
