James McAvoy would love to continue playing Charles Xavier in more X-Men movies

January 7, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Given that the contracts for X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult expired with last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, the future of the main franchise is up in the air at the moment, with reports suggesting it could be “reconfigured” with a soft reboot should any of the main cast opt against a return.

We do know however that filming on the spinoff movie X-Men: The New Mutants is slated to begin this Spring, and there’s been persistent talk that James McAvoy could reprise the role of Professor Charles Xavier for that film (just yesterday rumoured star Anya Taylor-Joy seemingly confirmed his involvement) and now McAvoy has told Fandango that he’d “love” a return as Professor X – if the story is right.

“If they offer me a really good part, I’ll be in,” said McAvoy, who will next be seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. “If it’s not a really good part, I’ll be like ‘Eh, I’ll think about it.’ But I’ve always loved playing Charles and I’ve always had pretty interesting things to do as Charles, so if that continues, then yeah, of course I’d love to take part.”

Are you hoping to see McAvoy’s Professor Xavier as part of New Mutants? Let us know in the comments below…
