Jared Leto says the long-awaited TRON 3 is “getting closer and closer”

March 24, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Jared Leto still wants to enter the world of TRON  but are viewers ready for another trip inside the virtual world?

Leto was first linked to a TRON movie back in 2017, with Lion director Garth Davis boarding the project in 2020. However, we’ve heard nothing since, leaving us to assume that the project may heading the way of the planned TRON: Legacy follow-up TRON: Ascension. However, Jared Leto promises that things are getting closer, and we could expect something sooner than anticipated.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Leto did drop a minor update about the project. “I’m a super fan of TRON, and we are working hard on TRON with our incredible partners at Disney. Just an amazing group of creative people,” says Leto. He goes on to add, “We’re getting closer. We’re getting closer and closer, and who knows? Something may be [coming] sooner than later.”

Tron: Legacy came out in 2010 and quickly became a cult hit. Its superb Daft Punk soundtrack and stunning visuals grabbed viewers much like the original 1982 film. The sequel would go on to make $400 million worldwide off a $170 million budget, which Disney felt wasn’t enough and stalled all talks about a third installment. However, Davis and Leto are looking to relaunch the sci-fi franchise once again with this third entry.

Little is known about Tron 3 and if it will serve as a continuation of Joseph Kosinski’s sequel, ow whether we might see a whole new story set in the Tron universe. There had been previous rumblings that Cillian Murphy’s cameo would be expanded on, but talks of that disappeared around the time of Leto and Davis joining the project.
