Jason Statham’s Wrath of Man skipping UK cinemas for a Christmas release on Amazon

September 30, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

You might have been wondering what had happened to Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham’s reunion movie Wrath of Man. Filmed during the pandemic, screened for critics back in May (you can read our ★★ review here), and released in the U.S. as something of a summer litmus test for the struggling moviegoing industry, the film had one of those non-specific 2022 release dates here in the UK, but now that’s changed.

Directed by Guy Ritchie and based on the French film Le Convoyeur, Wrath of Man will now be heading to Amazon Prime just in time for Christmas having been given a December 2021 release date on the streaming service.

With a 66% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a respectable global box-office cume of $103M, accrued at a time when the majority of cinemas around the world were closed, it seems like quite the coup for Amazon.

What do you make of this news? Would you have preferred to see Statham doing his thing on the big-screen, or will you be happy to watch this at 3pm after the Queen’s Speech this Christmas? Let us know if you’re excited for Wrath of Man by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

A mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard (Jason Statham) surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score.

Joining Statham in the cast of Wrath of Man are Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Josh Hartnett, Laz Alonzo, Raúl Castillo, Deobia Oparei, Eddie Marsan, Scott Eastwood and Post Malone.
