A sequel to Independence Day – entitled ID Forever Part I – is set for release in July 2016, but so far there has been no official word on which characters will return. However, Jeff Goldblum – who played David Levinson, a scientist who helps Will Smith’s character Captain Steven Hiller take out the alien threat – has now confirmed that he looks likely to reprise his role.
I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon,” Goldblum tells Time Magazine.
This only confirms that Goldblum has been approached, but there is clear indication that the actor is interested in reprising his role from the original film. However, this may be little more than a cameo or a small supporting role, rather than one of the leads.
