JFK series in development at Netflix, said to take The Crown approach

October 15, 2023 by EJ Moreno

As The Crown nears the end of its run, Netflix is looking to keep itself in the prestige political series business as Variety reports that the streamer will continue The Crown’s legacy with a similar show about the royals of American politics: The Kennedys.

The series will reportedly be an adaptation of the 2020 book JFK: Coming Of Age In The American Century, 1917-1956, by Fredrik Logevall. This was set to be the first part of a planned two-volume biography of John F. Kennedy.

Spawning decades of an illustrious political career, JFK is one of the most recognizable faces in American pop culture and history. Within this first part of the book and reportedly the series, we’d see a focus on Kennedy’s life from birth to his time as the junior U.S. Senators from Massachusetts.

Eric Roth is attached to write and executive produce the project. Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment will also executive produce. Roth is best known for winning an Academy Award for best-adapted screenplay for Forrest Gump in 1995 but has six other nominations. His most recent credit includes writing on Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film Killers of the Flower Moon.

The Variety report stated that Netflix had taken The Crown as a source of reference for the JFK series. Still, they have not confirmed if it would follow a similar format, which includes casting different actors for different periods.
