Joe Manganiello talks filming the original Justice League post-credit scene with Zack Snyder

December 10, 2020 by EJ Moreno

With all the changes to Justice League in 2017, it seems like the post-credit scene is simply one in a long list. During a recent interview with Yahoo News, actor Joe Manganiello spoke about the scene that introduced his take on iconic DC Comics villain Deathstroke and how it changed over time.

Manganiello said the original ending would’ve set up his appearance in Ben Affleck’s The Batman, but Whedon’s arrival changed it to a tease for Justice League 2.

“They reshot all of Jesse’s dialogue to tease Justice League Part 2, which was going to be about the Injustice League,” says Manganiello to Yahoo. “All of that dialogue was about Batman originally, and it was changed to lines like ‘Shouldn’t we have a league of our own?'”

He teases that we haven’t seen the last of his take on Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke: “Zack called me one day and asked, ‘How’d you like to do it again?’ So I said, ‘Sure, man, I’ll be there.’ And he told me, ‘OK, we’re getting your armor out of storage in England, and we’re going to fly it over here. Is there anything you want to do differently?'”

Manganiello even expressed his excitement over the Snyder reshoots so he can change up the character’s look: “The greatest warriors are the ones who walk into battle already dead or assuming that they’re going to die,” Manganiello explained.

“They’re looking for someone who could actually kill them. There’s almost an excitement around that, like ‘Is today going to be the day?’ So there was a climactic moment in my standalone story where I wanted Slade to shave his head into this war-like Mohawk, knowing that he was going off to his own death. I said to Zack, ‘I always envisioned him with a big white Mohawk,’ and he was totally down for it.”

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, Jared Leto as The Joker and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
