After scoring a record-breaking October opening last week, Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Joker has fought off competition from The Addams Family and Gemini Man to retain top spot at the box office at the second time of asking – and pushing its worldwide haul just shy of $550 million in the process.
Domestically, Joker grossed $55 million in its second weekend, along with a hefty $123.7 million internationally (down just 29% from its opening) to give the Joaquin Phoenix-headlined comic book adaptation $543.9 million and counting.
Joker has surpassed the $460.5 million haul of Gladiator to become the biggest hit of Phoenix’s career to date, and is fast closing on on director Todd Phillips’ highest-grossing movie The Hangover Part II, which earned $586.8 million back in 2011.

Joker centres around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.
